Meet the maker

Meet Sam at Sagonza Workshop

I'm Sam, the maker behind Sagonza Workshop. I work out of Metro Detroit, building the kinds of pieces I would want to give, display, and keep around myself.

Everything here comes from a self-taught mix of woodworking, 3D printing, patience, and repeat tries until the piece feels right. Some projects stay playful and collectible. Others lean into solid wood, custom details, and everyday use.

Two crafts, one workshop

I split my time between woodworking and 3D printing because each one solves a different part of the build. Wood gives me warmth, grain, weight, and durability. 3D printing lets me add crisp logos, layered color, and detailed inlays that would be hard to get any other way.

Together, those tools let me design and build custom wood pieces with a little more personality, plus small-batch magnets and collectibles that lean fully into the fandom side of the workshop.

Made for fellow fans

A lot of what I make starts with the same question: would another fan actually be excited to see this on their desk, wall, shelf, or workbench? That is what drives the small-batch magnet sets, collectible designs, and giftable pieces that show up in the shop.

On the wood side, I carry that same energy into custom mallets, trays, coasters, and other builds that feel personal instead of generic. If it gets designed, printed, or built here, it is because I think it should feel like it belongs to a real person, not a catalog.

How the work gets made

I keep coming back to walnut, maple, padauk, and cedar because each one brings its own color and feel to the final piece. When a build calls for it, I pair those woods with 3D-printed inlays or logos to sharpen the theme without losing the character of the material.

Finishes depend on the piece: epoxy where a sealed detail or glossy surface makes sense, tung oil when I want the wood grain to stay front and center, and lacquer where a tougher topcoat fits better. The goal is always the same—make the build look good, feel solid, and hold up to how it will actually be used.
